A person’s gender is a fundamental part of who they are.
Here at Parry Sound Counselling, we walk alongside gender diverse people in their journey towards their authentic selves. We understand that a person’s gender identity and expression is so personal and so unique. It can be confusing and at times painful to live in a world that tells you how you should look, act, and even feel.
We believe that a person’s gender is not a mental health issue to be treated but a form of diversity to be embraced. Our gender counselling will assist you in dealing with the psychological and emotional impact of living in an unwelcoming and transphobic environment.
At Parry Sound Counselling, we create an inclusive, supportive space to work with you in a better understanding of your gender identity. We can help you to communicate your gender identity-related needs to the important people in your life, reduce gender dysphoria and navigate the transition process if desired.

We live in a world that excludes and marginalizes some people just because of who they are. Among the most excluded and marginalized are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit or others who are questioning their gender identity (LGBTQ2+). LGBTQ2+ people are subjected daily to bullying, discrimination, and violence,The effect of homophobia and transphobia on a person’s psychological well-being can be profound, leading to depression, anxiety, self-hatred, and even suicide.
That being said, individual counselling can help LGBTQ2+ people to work through the wounds that have been inflicted on them by bullying and oppression, and to give them a safe space to determine who they really are - not who other people think they should be.
If you’re an LGBTQ2+ person struggling with your identity or wondering how to manage the consequences of being yourself, you’re an effing superhero. If you think counselling could be helpful to you in working through this difficult process, or in healing the wounds inflicted on you by homophobia or transphobia, Parry Sound Counselling is here to help.
